Most of people think that a one with an anxiety or depression issue can just wake up one day and decide to get happy. They think that we can wake up one day and decide to ‘chill out, smile, travel, being happy hang out, and deal with it’.

We are sorry but we have to destroy your illusion, Anxiety isn’t a decision, Anxiety is not something that you just “turn on or turn off”, Anxiety is not something that we can decide to have in a certain time and decide to not have it after.

Maybe sometimes we get free from its control, and we think we are completely in the clear, and maybe, it will be gone forever, just maybe, but it gets back within us when we are alone, it creeps up to us when we close our eyes. It shows up in the corners of our minds. It jumps out in front of us right when we are getting comfortable, without any warning. It shocks us to the core over and over again.

Depression doesn’t have a pause button on our minds. Anxiety doesn’t have a shut off button on our brains., We are not able just to decide to be happy. We can’t just chill out or just smoke a joint and relax.

Before you tell us just “relax” or “chill out”, Would you tell someone with a hurts foot, to stop overreacting and just keep walking? Would you tell someone with cancer to just take it easy, smile and let it go?. Would you tell someone with whatever its illness is just relax and stop being so dramatic? NO!. So please, STOP telling us to chill out when we don’t know how. STOP telling us “take it easy and smile”. STOP telling us that we have nothing to worry about, when that is all we know how to do. STOP judging how we feel, when you have idea what we are going through.

You will never know how it feels to fear for your life, to constantly be in a panic, and to constantly be filled with “what if’s?”. You will never know what we go through within of our brains every second of the day. You will never know how it feels to be plagued with a dark cloud that follows you around all the time. You will never know how we feel unless you spend a day in our minds, and a day in our lives.

So before you try to make us feel better by telling us “relax” or “chill”, Please remember that anxiety and depression are mental illness not a cries for attention. Believe me, if we can to just relax, we would to. We would chill. We would stop our thoughts from entering dangerous territory. Believe me. If we had the ability to, we would do it as fast as we could.
